About the Event
Tuesday 8 April & Wednesday 9 April
The MED’25 meeting took place over two enriching days, bringing together young people, educators, and religious leaders to reflect on education, dialogue, culture, and fraternity in Tunisia.
🌿 Tuesday, 8 April
The first day began at the École des Sœurs with a warm welcome, setting the tone for a day focused on identity, history, and intercultural dialogue.
Participants were first invited to reflect on Tunisia’s place in the Mediterranean through the intervention of Nicolas Lhernould, Archbishop of Tunis, who highlighted the country’s spiritual and cultural richness.
This was followed by a presentation from Adnen El Ghali, architect, urban planner, historian, and researcher, who shared valuable insights on Tunisian history, culture, and the educational system. An open exchange allowed participants to interact and deepen their understanding.
The day also included moments of spiritual reflection, with a Eucharistic celebration and a dedicated time of prayer for Muslim youth, reinforcing mutual respect and coexistence.
In the afternoon, Jawad Alamat, Secretary General of Catholic Schools in Tunisia and President of OIEC, spoke about education as a path to dialogue and fraternity. His intervention was followed by a round table that encouraged collective reflection.
Participants then explored the old port and the medina of Bizerte, discovering local heritage and traditions. The day concluded with a festive dinner at the École des Sœurs, accompanied by Tunisian and international music and dance, creating a joyful and friendly atmosphere.
🌟 Wednesday, 9 April
The second day focused on youth leadership, personal engagement, and cultural discovery, starting with a visit to the École des Sœurs in Menzel Bourguiba.
An inspiring talk was given by Magdalene Synnah, Director of the Primary School “Les Sœurs” in Menzel Bourguiba, who emphasized that education is above all a matter of heart, dedication, and human connection.
This was followed by testimonies from three young Tunisian animators: Kenza Bouras, Meryem Dridi, and Mohamed Wassim Guebsi. They shared their personal experiences in education, animation, and community work, inspiring participants through their commitment and creativity.
Group work and discussions then allowed participants to exchange ideas and reflect together. During this time, interactive games animated by MANZELYANO BOSCO YOUTH created a dynamic, joyful, and collaborative environment that strengthened teamwork and friendships.
In the afternoon, participants visited Carthage with Cécile Dilé, responsible for the Diocesan Studies Center, discovering historical and spiritual landmarks. The journey continued with a visit to Sidi Bou Saïd, offering moments of cultural immersion and reflection.
The event ended with a closing dinner at the Parish of St Cyprien in La Marsa, in the form of a picnic and experience-sharing session, where participants reflected on their journey in Tunisia and the strong bonds created during MED’25.
